Is this a news group or some advertising stand for anti virus programmers ? Well, a little of both.  Personally, I don't mind as long as those who have a financial interest in a particular product identify their affiliation.  People like Dr. Solomon don't just sell their product, but offer good advice to those in need.  I don't really have a problem with it. The Borg assimilated me & all I got was this lousy T-Shirt!

I wouldn't really call them the most educated people in the world on the topic of what these viruses all do...   I would.  While I grant you that virus writers have a greater knowledge than the AV people of what they _intend_ their code to do,  that isn't really important is it?  The question is what the virus will *actually* accomplish.   Since their companies rely on people to buy the product, they have a vested interest in how well that they perform the analysis of each virus.   Virus writers have no incentive greater than that of spreading their KewL handle or causing malicious damage.
